What is amla?
Amla is a small green, sour-tasting tropical tree native to India and Nepal that bears greenish-yellow skinned fruits with large black seeds inside. The outside of the fruit has a thick peel that can be eaten or scraped off for use as an ingredient in cooking. Phyllanthus emblica, also known as emblic, emblic myrobalan, myrobalan, Indian gooseberry, Malacca tree, or amla, from the Sanskrit amalaki, is a deciduous tree of the family Phyllanthaceae.
